Frantoio Sa Reina in Sardinia

We are very pleased to now be cooperating with the excellent small olive oil producer of Frantoio Sa Reina in Sardinia which was founded by Mrs Irma Loddo in 1985 and is currently owned by Maria Teresa Piras who has run the family owned company since 2008.
The mill is located near the small city of Villamassargia in the south west of Sardinia in the region of Sulcis and is very close to the world famous olive tree, "Sa Reina" which was planted by the Benedictine monks in 1,100 AD, and the company takes its name from this ancient tree.
Olives from local small producers and farmers are used to make the fine extra virgin olive oil produced by Frantoio Sa Reina and the company is proud of the history of olive oil making in this part of Sardinia and takes great care in the production of the Sa Reina olive oil.
Some of the varieties of olives found in this part of Sardinia and used in the production of the Sa Reina oil include the Bosan, Semidana, Gonnos and the Pizz'e Carroga.

The Sa Reina extra virgin olive oil is very different to many of the olive oils found on the mainland of Italy because of the indigenous olive varieties that are used in its production and the result is an olive oil that can be recognised as typical of this part of Sardinia.
The land on which it is produced is rich in minerals which allows the oil to have a bright intense golden yellow colour, Sa Reina olive oil has a smell of luscious ripe fruit and has a sweet and fully flavoured after taste.
This fine extra virgin olive oil maintains its freshness and taste over some time, with the aroma of fresh olives still being present many months after the oil is produced and bottled. It is best when used on salads, pasta and fresh vegetables but the oil also goes well with all types of dishes that can require a full bodied extra virgin olive oil.
Visits to the Sa Reina olive mill can be arranged most of year apart from when the harvest is taking place in late Autumn, and the owners are always happy to show visitors their olive groves along with tastings of this lovely olive oil.
