Orodichiusa olive oil from Sicily

Fattoria Martusa produces the most superb olive oil, the Orodichiusa in their frantoio located near the towns of Giuliana and Sclafani in the north of Sicily and within a short distance of the Mediterranean sea.
Olive production in Sicily dates back to the time of  the Greeks who are thought to have brought the first domesticated cultivar to the Island and fine olive oils have been made here for the ensuing centuries.
The estate extends to eight hectares and there are over 2,200 olive trees planted on the fertile ground which is some 600 metres above sea level.
With the coast and sea air being in such close proximity to the olive groves, and with a near perfect climate for olive growing the Fattoria Martusa produces a really excellent fine extra virgin olive oil which is much prized in both Sicily and mainland Italy.

The olives that are grown and used in the production of the Orodichiusa olive oils are  three of the typical Sicilian varieties, they include the Nocellara making up 45%, the Biancolilla a further 45% and the Giarraffa the final 10% of the oil. The Nocellara olive gives structure and scents to the olive oil, the Biancolilla brings a softness to the oil and the Giarraffa olive gives the oil a depth and strength, so the end result is a fine oil which is typical of the best olive oils produced in Sicily.
The oil is certified organic and made from olives picked at the very beginning of October each year and is then produced by using the traditional methods of milling, and pressed within 24 hours to obtain the very best result from the just ripened olives.
Olive oil from Fattoria Martusa has an intense golden colour with shades of green, it has a rich fruity taste and a subtle flavour of tomatoes, herbs and basil, with a closing taste of sweet almonds, and it is a fine accompaniment to salads, pasta, seafood, chicken, roasted meats and mature cheeses.
